Advent of Peace | Isaiah 41:8-10
• Series: Advent 2025
This powerful exploration of Isaiah 41 reveals a profound truth we desperately need: peace isn't something we manufacture through perfect circumstances or positive thinking—it's a person. Drawing from the prophet's words to exiled Israel, we discover three transformative realities about peace. First, the peril of peace: our God-given longing for wholeness can become dangerous when we search for it in the wrong places, crafting modern idols from careers, relationships, or control. Second, the promise of peace: God declares to His people a new identity rooted in the past (chosen, beloved, friends of God), a present reality (I am with you, I am your God), and a future assurance (I will strengthen, help, and uphold you). Finally, the provision of peace: Israel couldn't heal themselves—they needed something from outside. That something is Someone: Jesus, the Prince of Peace, who makes peace not through conquest but through His blood on the cross. Like epoxy filling the cracks of a broken surfboard, making it stronger than before, Christ's sacrifice fills our fractures and makes us whole. This Advent season, we're invited to stop seeking peace in tangled lights and perfect gatherings, letting them become reminders instead of replacements, pointing us toward the One who is our true and lasting shalom.
